Been meaning to do it for a while but I'm a weather wimp who won't set foot outside if I don't have to unless the temperature hits at least 65 deg. So, I consolidated all my stops along the way to the grocery store. I had a 20% off any one item for Borders, so I ran in there briefly looking for a new Lapinator with some cushioning on the bottom. I saw something in Barnes & Noble, but Borders didn't have what I was looking for.

Next stop was Home Depot, where I returned a floor register vent cover. Although it fit in the vent hole, whoever installed the ceramic tile in the powder room did a shit job of it, and the edges of the vent hole are all cracked and jagged, so the vent cover needs to come out a bit a cover them up. This one alas, did not. So, armed with trusty pocket tape measure, I purchased a different one. This one would cover the unsightly edges, but wouldn't fit in the vent hole because it had two little nail-head-like thingys on the side which stick out too far. So, back to Home Depot I will go sometime in the near future. The vent cover was only like $6, but hey, with the price of everything going up, I'm not going to throw $6 away.

Then I hit Best Buy. I had a rebate certificate for $20 and you know it's bad when I couldn't find a single thing in that entire store that I wanted to buy. That cost around $20, that is. Okay, I could get a small coffeepot, since the Mister has commandeered mine cause he finally discovered that cleaning the big, hulking pot with the push-dispenser that he was so gung-ho on buying and is taking up half the freakin' kitchen counter, is a real pain-in-the-ass to clean.

Last stop, the huge, Giant Eagle grocery store. I lucked out and found a parking space close to a door. That parking lot is insane, I hate it. It's a wonder there are not a million accidents there each day. So, I get my salad, which has gone up to $7.00 a pound! and grab two cases of bottled water cause I won't drink the tap water shit with fluoride in it. Snag a couple cans of cat food, which has gone up about a nickle a can, and a box of cat litter. Head out to my nice, clean, two-month old car that I washed last night... and see a two-inch long scratch mark right below the little door that covers the gas cap. WTF??? That was NOT there last night cause I would have noticed it whilst drying off the car. Grrrrrrr. Some freakin' idiot either drove a cart or a key into it, I'm guessing.

So on the way back to work, I pass a gas station and see that gas has gone up almost a dime since the day before! This is unreal.

Food crisis the latest 'Eve of Destruction?'

[...] At present, we Americans are largely immune to this sort of disorder. I read Krugman's column in an IHOP, while enjoying the special: two eggs, two bacon, two sausages, two pancakes, and two French toast. But it's unrealistic to imagine that the consequences of this crisis won't affect us in ways more significant than somewhat higher prices in our lavish supermarkets.

And the food crisis is closely connected with other foreboding predicaments like energy depletion, climate change, pollution, and rising tensions over diminishing resources of all types.

Of course, the outlook for civilization has been grim before. Even the Black Death was overrated.

In fact, nothing would please me more than to take my place in a long succession of discredited doomsayers.

This time, however, looks and feels different. The roots and consequences of the current crises are truly global, and the disquieting part is that, even though disaster appears to be almost inevitable, very little is being done to prevent it.
And just why is this???????????
News, Blog, Politics, Life, Humor, inflation, Rants, crisis, Sharhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15603199859801356361noreply@blogger.com
