To recap. Moving to new building in the fall, seating arrangements in said building were published last Friday. Five admin people. Three got offices, two didn't, one being yours truly. On Monday when Manager got back, L.C., Supervisor, and I went into his office for a little pow-wow. Manager expected it, he said, cause he was sympathetic. He warned Bob that we wouldn't be happy. Apparently, Bob doesn't give a rat's ass. We asked Manager what Bob's decision making process consisted of. Was it based on seniority? Pay grade? Roll of the dice? Manager didn't know, and said he would find out, and get back to us.

He did, the next day. So we all assembled again in Manager's office to hear The Verdict. Kind of anti-climactic, actually. Manager asked Bob if it was based on job title/salary grade. Bob admitted he had no clue what pay grade any of us admins were. Okay, that answers the question that his decision was based on anything remotely fair. Manager said Bob's answer was that Admin One (Bob's "secretary") was given an office because...well, that's what she was and he wasn't about to put her in a cube. Admin Two (who has been with the department less than a month) was given an office because she is the Heir Apparent (Manager's words), meaning that when Admin One retires at the end of this year, Admin Two will take over her role. I don't think that was made absolutely clear to Admin Two cause she wouldn't have taken the job if it was. Admin Three was given an office because.... well, Manager said that Bob really didn't give a valid reason for it. I dunno, maybe she dressed better.

Supervisor chimed in and said it certainly wasn't cause she was a better employee. Supervisor has to interface with Admin Three on a regular basis, and knows of what she speaks. Whatever, L.C. and I drew the short straws in Bob's mind, and that's that. C'est la vie. Bob even apologized to Manager for Manager having to "put up with" listening to our disgruntled questioning of his Authoritah. That only reinforced to me that Bob is an even bigger douchebag that I thought. I later told Supervisor that if climbing the Corporate Ladder to the top meant that I became the type of person who felt that listening to an employees concerns was a waste of time, then I'm glad to be a peon.

She wholeheartedly agreed. And the quote about it being easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven was mentioned.

So, I've been cutting out Dilbert comics and looking up cubical accessories on-line. I'm giving The Mister my three office plants for his room at the Piano Academy where he gives lessons. It has a nice window and all he will have to do is remember to water them, and I vow to nag him repeatedly to do it.

And as an update to a former story about free speech on the Internet, I read that this press release has been issued.
News, Blog, freedom of speech, Life, dilbert, Current Affairs, Rants, Media, higher balance institute,Sharhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15603199859801356361noreply@blogger.com
